Quality Management System (QMS) - What's this

My dear friends, today I would like to post something related to quality process that starts along with any development activity. Every individual company will have its own QMS (Quality Management System) depending upon its nature of work and process.

What is this QMS?

Quality Management System (QMS) can be defined as a set of polices, processes and procedures required for planning and execution.

In general a QMS will have the following process to manage its development activity effectively.

• Common Process.
• Hardware Process.
• Software Process.

The above process are very important in the development activity as every stage of the development is well defined to meet the standards of the certification that the company has perceived such ISO,CMMi, BVQI etc.
The above process are again defined and approved by the QA Managers to suit their process of development activity, ultimately the aim of QMS to produce a hassle free product.

In the context of either Hardware or Software process, quality measures how well, a Hardware or Software is designed and how well the hardware or software conforms to that design, although there are several different procedure to design and develop the product as specified or required by the customer.

Generally the following things are noted when we closely look at the term QUALITY of a product.

• Reliability
• Understandability
• Portability
• Maintainability
  
• Testability
  
• Usability
  
• Consistency
• Efficiency
  
• Security
  

With consideration of all the above factors, the quality product is delivered to the customer.

Process before starting a project

Dear Friends, here are the few points that I would like discuss that generally takes place in any of the company before starting the Project and Testing.

1. A project start meeting
2.Get the PRS (Product Requirement Specification) or any other SOW (Statement Of Work) from configuration management tool.
3. Study phase - PRS
4. Validate PRS with respect to SOW
5.Get design doc from developer through configuration management.
6. Analyse requirements and implementation based on PRS and Design Doc.
7. Prepare test cases and formulate ATP(Acceptance Test Plan) .
8.Generate Traceability matrix with respect to ATP.
9. Test setup.
10. Testing and bug filing.
11. Test Report generation.

This is what I have understood when I have undergone a training conducted by my quality team member. All the above steps are to be followed in each phase of the design to make a successful and defect free product.

Am currently working on a project which is basically a network project on Linux OS, with this start again I have to study and understand about Networking, few of the followings which is very important to understand about my current project and that my Project Manager has suggested to read.

The list goes on increasing, I have started to study simultaneously all the concepts together, because it was and is very much necessary for to adjust to the pace of the project, but still I have to know and understand a lot about all these.I have come across many more things which were very challenging to achieve both practically and logically, friends I will write with few such examples in my forthcoming posts.

My first assignment : Linux

Friends, as I have been writing you all in my previous posts about my starting in an Industry, here what is more important is what am now, what am doing now and how am doing now, than what was I, hence my dear friends I would like to share few of the real time examples and assignments which I have been asked to do.

As I have already told you that am working on Embedded platform, one must have a thorough knowledge of an Operating System, as our company has a lot of on going projects on WinCE, Linux and RTOS (Real Time Operating System) VxWorks etc. I have been assigned with one of the Sr. Architect who is working on Linux.
As I did not have any previous knowledge on Linux I have been asked to go through many of the online guides and documents to have a knowledge.

The goals set

1. To scan all the AP's in the network
2. To create log-in id
3. To check create a partition and install Linux
4. To print all the connected users to the server
5. File manipulations

As a beginner I found its very very difficult to find the answer to achieve above goals, I did not have any resource other than online google and this Blog, I was really worried to achieve the above goals set by him, because I did not have even a bit of knowledge of Linux, then I got few hints from other developers who is working on Linux, they have told me to understand the following before I start.

2. Editor command like vi, vim, ed
3. ls command and its attributes
4. Creating files and directories
5. File related manipulations
6. What is a Shell Script
7. How to execute the Scripts

Its become very interesting for me to explore all the above and I have started doing R&D to know about the above topics, and very shortly I have collected the materials to do the above.

Where There Is A Will There Is A Way

Friends, I strongly believe in the above title phrase, as today whatever am is because of my will power. Friends as I have told you all in my last posting that an ordinary Stores Assistant who is now working on Embedded platform, really one can't just achieve this in an overnight, this needs lot of dedication and commitment towards his goal. I am not denying or am boasting myself that I have achieved only because of my will power, but there are many people who has helped me directly and indirectly without whom I would not have reached this position, but yet, before everything one should have a self motivation and confidence.

Once you are motivated and set your target goal to achieve you will start finding the ways to reach your goal, you will come across many ups and downs during your this journey, as there are good colleague around you who helps you, guide you and at the same time there are bad colleagues too who curb about your success and your progress, which will make you to get back from your way of destiny, hence I strongly believe in my will power and I did not show my back, as this happened with me too. So my dear friends be strong in what you want to do and just keep doing things and don't go deep sleep till you make it to happen.

There are many things which has come in my way to make things to happen but not everything has worked according to my plans but I did not gave up, many times when we give up we never know how close we were to success, so my dear friends don't ever give up.

I will write to you all about what has happened with which I had a chance to expose my self that am capable of doing in my next post, there so many such experiences and individual's taught in this blog, which will surely helps you all to have a bit of confidence in you that you can any thing... My first IT-Job experience

Though its not my first job, but I would like to say its my first job, because it was my DREAM JOB. I feel its not really necessary to write more about my previous job, rather I would like to write more about how I got my Dream Job and my experience.

Friends, let me tell you all something which is very much true, that nothing is Impossible in the world as long as one has confidence and dedicated towards his way of destiny, for which I am the live example. Here I would like to share with you all is my first day experience in my company.

I was very happy for joining an IT company, I had many questions in mind, had lot expectations and at the same time I was feeling like will I be able to survive in the company and much worried about my career, with all these queries I stepped in to the company to meet HR for completing the joining formalities. It was a very pleasant environment a big reception area and warm welcome by the receptionist with cheerful smile, I was really delighted. My dear friends I was not there exactly for any of the key post of the company or for any of the technical job profile, but I have made my mind on the first day itself that one fine day I will make my identity in the company and will be in a position where I will be an live example for all those who starts their career in IT industry. Friends, you might be thinking, what was I, and what was my Job profile in such a big Software company, friends I have joined the company as Stores Assistant, but today I am working on one of the biggest revenue generated project for a company, on Embedded platform. you might be wondering how can a person who joined as stores assistant now working on Embedded project. Yes thats true, hence I told you in the beginning that nothing is IMPOSSIBLE because impossible itself says I'M-POSSIBLE.
